The Drug Safety Physician will oversee medical and pharmacovigilance activities for both clinical trial and post-marketing drug safety processes. You will be responsible for ensuring that all safety data—spontaneous reports, literature cases, and clinical study data—are accurately evaluated and reported according to regulatory standards such as ICH, FDA, and EMA guidelines. Key Responsibilities
As part of ICON’s pharmacovigilance team, the Drug Safety Physician will:
- Review and assess Adverse Events (AEs) and Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) for seriousness, expectedness, causality, and listedness.
- Perform medical reviews of cases using MedDRA coding, ensuring consistent and accurate data classification.
- Support the Drug Information and Product Support Centre in handling product safety inquiries and providing medically accurate information.
- Evaluate aggregated safety reports such as Annual Safety Reports (ASRs), Periodic Safety Update Reports (PSURs), and Development Safety Update Reports (DSURs).
- Identify and assess potential safety signals during clinical trials or post-marketing surveillance, escalating findings to senior management and clients when necessary.
- Participate in the preparation of clinical trial protocols, Company Core Data Sheets (CCDS), and Product Information Leaflets from a safety perspective.
- Provide pharmacovigilance consulting and support during regulatory submissions and audits.
- Contribute to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Project Specific Procedures (PSPs) to maintain compliance across pharmacovigilance projects.
- Offer training and mentorship to team members on safety data evaluation, case processing, and global regulatory requirements.
- Communicate regularly with sponsors and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate exchange of safety information.
Required Qualifications
- Educational Qualification: Medical Degree (MD or equivalent).
- Licensure: Active medical license in India or equivalent jurisdiction.
- Preferred Specialization: Internal Medicine, Clinical Pharmacology, or any relevant medical discipline.
- Experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in pharmacovigilance, drug safety, or related clinical research roles.
- Technical Skills:
- Thorough understanding of ICH-GCP and pharmacovigilance regulations.
- Proficiency in MedDRA coding, safety database systems, and global regulatory reporting processes.
- Ability to interpret complex clinical data and make sound medical judgments.
